Tuesday, the oil spill has spread further south to San Mateo county causing all of the Pacifica beaches to shut down. With the call of Pedro Point surf club and Pacifica's local ocean environment activists, local cleanup effort has begun with official and now a mandatory training.
If you missed this training and would like to attend the next, I just found out from Pacifica Police another training will be at Half Moon Bay on Thursday at the IDES hall, Main Street from 5-9pm. We have be advised that it is mandatory that we attend this 4-hour training session in order to be allowed onto and help clean up the beaches. Trampling of the oil into the sand in a disorganized effort will push the oil balls deeper into the sand making it harder to clean up in the long run as more material will need to be removed.
If you are in San Francisco the next training is Wednesday at the County Fair Building - 9th & Lincoln in Golden Gate Park from 6pm-10pm.
