Join Us on 9TH Annual Kahuna Kupuna Surf Contest

9TH ANNUAL KAHUNA KUPUNA SURF CONTEST
Event Date Set: Sat 8/9
Sponsors Surfrider San Mateo Chapter

It's time for us to get rolling on getting the word out about the 9th Annual Kahuna Kupuna, which will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the best peak on that day at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica from 7 AM until 5:30 PM followed by a party and award ceremony
at the Firehouse. Please find attached an entry form.

In order to have a bit more time for divisions 50 years of age and up, the divisions for men and women surfers in the 40 to 44 and 45 and 49 year age groups will be combined into one 10 year division from 40 - 49.

There will also be divisions for surfers 20 - 29 years of age as well as surfers 30 - 39 years of age.

We will continue to offer both longboard and shortboard divisions for all age groups and for both men and women.

The Intergenerational Team Division will once again be offered for the third year in a row. All are welcome to form an intergenerational Team, which are comprised of 6 surfers, represent three generations (18 years = 1 generation) and must include at least one surfer under 20 years of age. If you're interested in putting together a team, start organizing one now before Izzy gets
to the surfers you may want on your team first.

For the first time, we'll offer a Bodysurfing Division, which will be held at a separate peak from the main contest peak. So, start practicing your best body surfing moves following a surf session. Divisions will be divvied up age wise based on how the age ranges of the people who sign up to participate. Stay tuned for a separate entry form for this division. I'll send it out in a week or so.

As in past years, one entry fee of $80 for surfers 20 and over will cover participation in all divisions: shortboard, longboard, Intergenerational Team and Bodysurfing division. Surfers under 20 who are part of an intergenerational team only need to pay $30.

All net proceeds will be donated to the Pacifica Beach Coalition and the local San Mateo County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. Everyone involved in organizing the contest is donating their time and will only be reimbursed for their expenses. Many thanks again to Pacifica's Environmental Family, a local 501 (c) (3) organization for agreeing to be this contest's fiscal sponsor.

As usual, I'll need lots of help to pull this off, so if you want to volunteer as a judge, rassle up some raffle prizes (especially Surfboards, I stink at asking people for surfboards), recruit sponsors for the event or do anything else, please let me know at your earliest convenience.

The website for the contest is the same as last year: www.kahunakupunasurf.org. I'll be adding lots of useful information and pics from last year to this site over the next week or so.

That's enough for now about the Kahuna Kupuna. More news soon. Read on, because I'm about to invite you and your family and friends to a very special event this coming Sunday, June 22nd . . . if I haven't already. (I apologize if this part is a repeat from a previous email that I've already sent to you.)
